A Living Epistle; Or Gathered Fragments by Caroline S. Blackwell

A Living Epistle; Or, Gathered Fragments From The Correspondence Of. Caroline S. Blackwell — Caroline S. Blackwell's collection of epistolary devotional writings, attributed to 19th-century Irish evangelicals, gathers letters and diary-like reflections addressed to sisters and brothers in the Lord. Written across Ireland and Britain (Kilkee, Kilkishen, Clonmel, Dublin, Bath, Mount Rivers, and other towns) between approximately 1860s and early 1870s, the pieces blend scripture, prayer, and exhortation to nurture faith, hope, and love, foster mutual ministry, and sustain communal worship. Central themes include union with Christ, sanctification, the priesthood of Christ, the nourishment of fellowship through bread and water imagery, and the primacy of Scripture and Spirit over human tradition. Readers encounter revival meetings, pastoral visits, baptism and confirmation discussions, and meditations on Hebrews, 1 Peter, and Leviticus typology as keys to living as pilgrims from deliverance to heavenly inheritance. The work aims to edify believers, strengthen faith, and cultivate a hopeful, Christ-centered life within a network of 19th-century evangelical communities.
