Country Churches of New Zealand: A Collection by Don Donovan

There was no shortage of spiritual energy back in colonial times. Newly arrived settlers were quick to start building churches to ensure their spiritual survival and now, well over 150 years later, more than 500 of them are still standing. This collection of attractive watercolour illustrations comprises approximately 160 country churches - a collection that represents their many architectural forms throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand. Each illustration is complemented by a caption, often taking the form of a pithy comment on the history of the building and any other relevant (and sometimes entertainingly irreverent) titbits of information.
