Heaven's Song by Marilyn Kok

Cassie's friendship with Nick Meyers, a single father and doctoral student, falters when Nick's life begins to splinter--a mutual friend is brutally murdered, his advisory is suspected of falsifying data, and a babysitter has physically abused his young daughter. Unwittingly dragged into an investigation they can't seem to escape, both Cassie and Nick long for the tranquil family life of their dreams, where heaven's song can be heard in the afternoon breeze.
